The owner's representative is the eyes and ears of the shipowner at the yard. Their job is to protect the owner's interests — and they need the right tools to do it well.
When a shipowner contracts a new vessel, they send a supervision team — or a single representative — to the shipyard to oversee construction on their behalf. This person or team is the owner's representative (OR).
